Spring 2026

This term, we will investigate the essential question: Where could an adventure take you? We will research many explorers from around the world, including Matthew Henson, Robert Falcon Scott and Balto the dog. After learning and understanding the successes and what might have led to the failure, we will plan and complete an expedition around our local area. In teams, we will set off, with many obstacles and challenges along the way, but fighting for the team to place their flag at the summit first.

What a day!

We are fortunate to have Dan Tastic, a real life, modern explorer visit us in school. He told us about his adventures to all seven continents! How lucky he is. We looked at artifacts, animal skins, bones, claws and tusks as well as photographs of his expeditions.

Where did an adventure take us?

Today we went on a hike to discover “where an adventure could take us.” First, we trekked through long grass, around Harlaxton Manor, and across fields full of geese, collecting treasure tokens along the way before stopping for lunch. We needed to refuel at the halfway point to give us plenty of energy to continue.
After lunch, we walked through the churchyard, where we stopped for a toilet break — quite an adventure in itself, as we had never visited a toilet in a church before! Soon after, we passed through lots of kissing gates (though we only blew kisses to each other once) and paused at the top of a hill to admire the stunning view of the Vale of Belvoir. How lucky we are!
Before long, we headed back through the fields, finding our final token before claiming our treasure. Our last stop was… the shop for chocolate! Edible treasure really is the best kind. Our little legs then carried us back to school, where we enjoyed our creamy chocolate treat after our 7 km — or should I say 12,000-step — adventure!

English

We have been on a 'nighttime adventure'. We prepared ourselves and took our torches across the swamp, through the long, swishy grass fields, over a rickety old bridge joining snowy mountains before stopping in a cave to warm up. Shortly after that, we had to jump over a deep, fast-flowing river before finding a treasure chest. Inside was... GOLD! We had the best time on our adventure, and are now looking forward to writing up our recount in a diary.
We have created imaginative journey stories based on the title Blown Away. After weeks of planning, drafting, and refining their work, the Year 2 children proudly presented their final stories to the Reception class. The younger pupils were truly “blown away” by the creativity and enthusiasm shown, and they thoroughly enjoyed listening to the happy endings.

Maths

We have been exploring money! We have looked at coins and notes. Did you know the highest value doesn't have to be the biggest in size? We made different amounts using coins and notes and even played shops. We calculated how much we spent but also remembered how much change we needed!

Science

We are exploring Animals including Humans this term. So far, we have named the main body parts whilst also discussing organs and their purpose. We have investigated our senses and explored different things we can see, smell, hear, taste and touch. We realised that we use multi-sense approach in day-to-day life.
We have been looking at germs and the importance of handwashing. First we took our dirty, unwashed hands and touched a slice of bread before putting it in a sandwich bag. Then we washed and dried our hands before doing it again. We left the bread for two weeks to see what might happen. OH MY! Look at the mould spores on the bread that we touched with our dirty hands. We found out many germs are invisible and after playtime, our hands need to be washed!
The bulbs we planted in winter have begun to grow now it is Spring. We think this is because there are more hours of daylight and the rainfall in winter helped them to be ready to shoot.

Design Technology

We are having so much fun looking at mechanisms. We have explored flaps, levers and flanges. We will use these skills to help us create and make a vehicle. Shortly we will be exploring axels to work out how wheels turn...

We have begun to create our DT vehicles with axels. First we need to prepare our materials - we used saws to cut dowling and gluegun to attach the wheels.

PE

In PE we are exploring how our bodies move through using the climbing equipment. We used our hands, arms, feet and legs to lift ourselves up. Look how we can climb!
