Summer 2026

Our final term is upon us. Please see the main class page for our weekly routine and spellings.

This term we will explore many continents looking at animals and plants to answer the essential question:

We will learn how a range of animals grow and survive and what they need. We will investigate the life cycles of minibeasts as well as African animals. Read the topic web below for further information about this term's learning.

 Geography

We have been looking at Google Maps and DigiMaps. We located the United Kingdom and many areas within, including Grantham. We are comparing Grantham town to the town, Iten in Kenya. There were many similarities but many differences too. We will begin to look at physical and human features in these locations too.

Science

We have investigated seeds and bulbs and how they might grow and what they need to survive. We have planted some runnbean seeds hoping to see them grow.

English - Beat the Monster Fiction

We are using Jack and the Beanstalk as our stimulus this term. We have explored structure and grammar in our first version, Jack and the Giant. Now we are moving on to imitation, where we will change the main character and choose a name of our own. Let’s hope Florence, Ronaldo, Ivy, and Jane all manage to survive the Giant! We loved inviting our families to join us to listen to our 'Beat the Monster' stories. I think they did too - It definitely wasn't just the biscuits we offered them!

English - Explanation Text

John from Science Kidz magazine has asked for our help! There is a major swarm of the Harlaxton Red Bee taking over our village. Together We Can... learn all about this insect, create Explanation Texts and warn the locals.

Maths - Fractions

We are exploring and investigating equal and unequal parts. Equal parts can be described as fractions. So far, we have identified halves, quarters, and thirds. We went outside to draw arrays on the playground to show equal groups and to explore what one third of a number looks like. We then challenged ourselves further by finding the whole when we were given one third.

Maths – Position and Direction

We are using a range of vocabulary to describe where something is. We have used forwards, backwards, above, below, behind, right and left. Soon we will look at quarter turns, including clockwise and anticlockwise.
