Welcome to Year 3!
We hope you have all had a lovely summer break and are feeling refreshed and ready for an exciting new school year. We are really looking forward to welcoming the children into Year 3 and beginning our learning together!
🌿 Our Learning This Term
This term, our learning will take us on an exciting journey into the Amazon Rainforest!
Our essential question is: What would it be like to live in the Amazon Rainforest?
Below, you can find our curriculum overview, which gives you more information about what we will be learning across the curriculum. The children will also receive their own termly overview at the beginning of each big term.
PE
PE will take place on a Wednesday afternoon. Please remember that, for PE, earrings must be removed, and long hair must be tied back.
✏️ Homework & Spellings
Homework will be given out every Friday and should be returned by the following Wednesday.
Our weekly spelling test will take place every Friday and will consist of five spellings:

Spellings 1–4 will be linked to the spelling pattern we have been learning in class.

Spellings 5 will be taken from the Year 3 and 4 statutory spelling words.
A spelling overview for the whole half-term will be sent home at the end of the first week of each half-term and will also be available below on our class page. Children will therefore no longer receive a weekly spelling grid.
📚 Reading
Reading records will be checked every Monday. Children who have read at home four or more times during the week will receive house points. Please continue to encourage regular reading at home. Little and often makes such a difference!
✖️ Times Tables
Please practise timetables regularly at home. In Year 3, our main focus will be learning the 3, 4 and 8 times tables, while continuing to recap and build fluency with the 2, 5 and 10 times tables.
